The Daiquiri, one of the very few true classics invented outside the United States, and one of the hardest to master. Three ingredients, no margin for error.
First the traditional “work sipper” — lime, sugar and rum over crushed ice, the way it was served among the Taino. Then the modern Daiquiri, shaken and served up. Tasting them side by side is the whole lesson: same three ingredients, two completely different drinks.
If there’s time and appetite, we’ll add a third drink of your choosing.
— Papa Doble (the Hemingway Daiquiri): grapefruit and maraschino, no sugar.
— A Sour — whiskey, gin, or brandy. The connection to American cocktail history.
— Ti’ Punch — rhum agricole, lime, cane syrup. The same three ingredients as a Daiquiri, with a slightly different backstory.
— A custom Daiquiri variation: build something around what’s already on your shelf, but now with the new techniques and skill from your lesson!
